A destination often overlooked by travellers looking for Pacific Island travel. Noumea is not a “tropical beach/palm tree” destination like you would find in Fiji or Vanuatu but rather a city. It is why cruise travellers often say they dislike Noumea because the city is where the ships dock. The main tourist areas of Anse Vata and Baie Des Citrons however are a lot nicer but still not with the tropical beach resorts most people think of when thinking of South Pacific Islands. The nearest to this would be the Le Meridien or Chateau Royale. Here I would recommend hiring a car and driving north along the east coast. It is a lovely drive with lots of little towns and villages and some lovely hotels.
